First Day of Kindergarten Jitters: Tips for Parents

Hello Glams,

I am so excited to be teaching in a new Classroom at a new School with a whole new outlook for this school year. As a Parent and a Teacher I totally understand the idea that the First Day of school would have Jitters! Guest what...? Teachers have first day jitters to.....lol.

 Tips for Parents:

Everyone's been talking about it and preparing for it for months - the build-up is intense! And now the big day is here. Like any good parent, you want to know how to help your kindergartner navigate through the first few days and weeks of school. Here are a few tips that will help you and your child during this exciting time.

Tip 1: Recognize and manage your own emotions:

A lot of the first day jitters usually belong to my Parents, especially if this is their first dropping their child of to a 9-5 school day. What I ask my Parent to do is to avoid projecting their anxiety on to their child. Just because you would be shy and nervous in a room full of strangers doesn't necessarily mean your child will.

Tip 2: Establish a partnership with the teacher.

Determine right now that you will do your part to work together with your child's teacher on behalf of your child. leave your cell phone number and feel free to let the teacher know you would be more at ease if you received and updated text message during those first days of school so as you may be able to gradually  get a sense of security and comfort when observing what is transpiring in class throughout the day.  parents and teachers - talking, getting along and interacting in positive ways sends the message to your child that the teacher is someone to trust and talk to, too.

Tip 3: Encourage your child to ask for help.

New situations lose most of their scariness when we find an ally that we can trust to help us navigate and answer our questions. Some children have already had enough experience in new situations, or have a confident enough temperament, that they will assume the teacher is a trustworthy helper and will confidently ask where to hang their jacket or where the bathroom is, but other children may need to hear that message directly from you.
If you have a child with a more cautious temperament, it might even be helpful to practice asking the teacher for help by acting out the process using puppets, dolls or action figures. Think of some likely scenarios, like needing to go to the bathroom or not knowing where to throw away garbage. Then ask your child to be the teacher while you portray the new child with a question. Be sure to throw in lines about feeling shy, embarrassed or afraid so that your child can respond with words of comfort and reassurance as the teacher.

Although there are many other tips and tactics for managing this important transition in the life of your child and family, as an Educator I find these three are especially important for supporting your child emotionally and laying the ground work for a terrific kindergarten experience for everyone!

Outfit of the Day:The Skirt Set

My Anniversary Celebration Outfit.

For this Outfit I choose to do a monochromatic look with nude lips and a pop of color on the eyes.

Silver accessories including a clutch, earrings and bracelets keep the look fresh and sophisticated enough for a dinner date.

Sued Pumps in the same color as this skirt set, top off the outfit and give it the modern edge it needed to pull the look together.
The hair was done in a banana clip Mohawk that pulled the hair off the face.

Why do we Celebrate our Wedding Anniversary?

Nearly fifteen years ago I met this wonderful, kindhearted most gentle soul one could come across in today's society of phony and self seeking men. I found him to be the man of my dreams; hence tying the knot was a simple decision for me to make. Throughout the last 8 years of marriage, we've never failed to celebrate our anniversary whether it be simple or splashy.

As we diligently love, support and encourage each other daily to be the best spouse, Father, Mother, Friend, Lover and Confident our daily encounters do genuinely come across as a  manifestation of love, hence we seek to celebrate being a young couple every chance we get. This in itself is a hard task when facing the he reality of Parenthood, two full-time jobs, Home & Rental Property renovations and extended family issues as all of these do tend to affect our couple time. Hence being able to count on this man thorough thick and thin is definitely worth celebrating our wedding  anniversary every day of the week.

For us the secret to marriage "is not to think alike but to think together" Robert .C. Dodds.

When someone knows all of your mistakes  flaws and differences yet they still think that youre absotuletly amazing and they choose to love you anyway, this kind of love is cobsidered greatest love in the world.

I leave you with these few tips to a successful marriage:

1. Never both be angry at the same time.
2. Never yell at each other unless the house is on fire
3. If you have to criticize, do it lovingly.
4. If one of you has to win an argument, let it be your spouse.
5. Never bring up mistakes from the past
6. Neglect the whole world instead of each other.
7. Never go to sleep with an argument unsettled
8. At least once a day say a kind word or pay a compliment to your partner.
9. When you have done something wrong, admitt it and ask for forgiveness.
10. It takes two to make a quarrel and the one in the wrong is usually the one who does the most talking.

Thanks for reading, wishing you nothing but love peace and happiness in all of your relationships that you encounter on a daily basis.

What to wear to a summer picnic

What to wear to a picnic

 Happy Sunday Glams!

With the splendid hot weather we're enjoying here in Washington DC, this month is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor time with your friends and Family before the cool weather starts heading our way.
While you're munching on fried chicken wings and salad and drinking Lemonade and Ice-tea  you'll need to be wearing something light and cooling.

Picnic dressing involves easy-to-wear casual separates that can be layered on if the weather turns cold, and will look good if you decide to splash out on a cream tea.
Denim skirts are easy to wear and hard wearing too (those grass stains will wash out easily!) pair them with an easy tank or a simple crop top as I have done.

Capri pants are another casual staple that will work with a floral shirt or thin cap-sleeved knit.
However if you're taking deck chairs you can dare to wear something more flimsy so indulge your romantic side and pick an easy-to-wear bias cut skirt or dress with feminine details like beading or ribbon trims - vintage 40s tea dress would be perfect.

A cardigan is the perfect cover-up if the sky clouds over. Cotton or light-weight wool are your best bets and go for candy-bright colors during the summer months.

The unveiling of my new camera, the Nikon L320

Hello Glams,
Happy Saturday,
Today I received my new Camera and my 5 year son, (my Photographer) was more excited than I was about a  16.1 megapixel Camera....so exciting..........
The Shots are much better than that of my Camera phone. The ability to recieve a clean, crisp picture is evident in all of these shots.

The scree on the camera is a simply one which allows you to view your shots during and after you took them in good detail. But to be honest who cares if the screen on the camera is good, we only should really care about picture quality!

Overall I am super happy I bought this camera. It is quite sturdy and has no trouble being tossed in a backpack or being treated rough and tough by my toddler. It comes with a camera strap and lens cap which are both of high quality. The camera it self seems very well put together and has that Nikon feel.I am quite sure that you guys are going to enjoy a lot of my wonderful photos.
